The Travels, Trials and Tribulations...

This page will have specific references to the trip from Georgetown to the Jumentos, then inside of the Jumentos to Ragged Island. I will be adding chartlets outlining each specific note here, but at this writing, they haven't been uploaded. Also, if you have any specific knowledge of any of this area, email me here, and I'll post your comments.

From Georgetown - leave Georgetown via the south pass, no significant issues here, but watch your depths, some of the charted reefs are not as noted on all charts. Also, not all charts show the green marker, directly opposite the red, on the shoal leaving the harbour. So, leaving, it's a red - leave it on your port side of course - then a red-green. That's it.

Hog Cay Cut - before leaving Georgetown, get local information on Hog Cay Cut and, unless you are a cat of the shallowest draft, go in at half tide rising or better, when the cut will reportedly carry five feet. Hog Cay Cut will allow you to bypass Long Island and go directly to Comer Pass West and down into Water Cay or Nuevitas Rocks. In my case, the tide was falling when I reached HCC and I wanted to reach Long Island anyway, hopefully to meet up with Greg on Rainbeau, who is also headed to Cuba.
Update - Greg emailed yesterday - his transmission has problems and he's headed north to effect repairs. However, I've just met two people who have just returned from Cuba who I'll meet with tonight. There's also a young man who's just come back here from two weeks in Cuba.
