Most
of us have no ambition to cross oceans, or make
week long passages. We're happy to scoot from
island to island, using eyeball navigation in good
weather. The ICW may be tedious, but sure looks
good when NOAA broadcasts a small craft warning and
you're thirty miles offshore with no inlet nearby.
Been there, done that. Wasn't fun. Remember - we're
here to have fun, not be the next Chichester or,
God forbid, Miles and Beryl Smeeton!
If I have to deal with 45
knots of wind, I want to be
in a dockside pub, watching
my boat while it's safely tied to a
dock. Done that too, it's more fun!
I'm quite happy to leave heroics
to the heroes. So is my admiral, and that settles the issue right there!
So, in the next few pages, you'll find some tips and tricks to get you south safely and in comfort.
Bon voyage!
